My name is Marianna. I like to take pictures to make up for the fact that I don't talk so much. I think about family, love, and oneself.

People and places are the two pillars on which I have tried to build my work. At the core of my practice lies the desire to show people, closest friends and strangers alike, how much their stories matter to me and how their presence brings something to this world that no one else could. At the same time, I am trying to find ways to connect the viewer to a landscape, to make a landscape photograph that works as a metaphor for human experience, reflecting on feelings like loss and separation or hope and acceptance.
I consider my approach to photographing an intersection between documentary and fine art, blending a straightforward framing with more emotive, fine art details. The choice of black and white in the majority of my photographs is so that a moment is captured as raw as possible, without any distractions.
The making of photographs is all about the need to make sense of one's world, one's life. I invite viewers to find pieces of themselves within those experiences specific to my life, my world.
